Hiking Appalachian Trail

Springtime for Hikers
The Appalachian
Trail is Shenandoah's
jewel and springtime is definitely the coolest season to hike
the Blue Ridge Mountain. Take in the wide open (and leafless)
views! At the point where Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland
meet, this scenic trail passes the ruins of Civil War forts and
campsites on its way up to Maryland Heights (elevation
1,448 feet) with a sweeping vista of historic Harper's Ferry. A 4.2 miles round trip from the town to the
cliffs, this moderate-rated hike offers a combination of history
and scenery to parents and children alike.
After dark,
skies over the Shenandoah valley come to life, with stars
competing in a beauty contest rarely seen by city slickers but thoroughly enjoyed from the proximity and
warmth of the cabin's roaring fireplace.
